MacGyver Series: Hair Tourniquets and Lighted Ear Curettes
I do not have any financial interest in Bionix, I’m just a fan of their lighted products. I’ve also used their lighted forceps for foreign body removal from ears. It seems that kids often really like the lighted curettes and forceps - they do have a bit of a “wow” factor - and they don’t mind as much to have a “magic wand” inserted in their ear. I suspect that most docs are already familiar with Bionix from their non-lighted multicolored Safe Ear Curettes. Their products are available on Amazon. I think the Lighted Ear Curette Variety Pack is the best bang for the buck - 50 curettes, 7 different style tips, comes with 1 LED light source and 1 magnification lens, $95.99. It’s important to treat the light source like a gas station bathroom key - attach it to something! The curettes are single-use, but there’s only 1 light source! I purchased their lanyard that tells me and others that it’s not disposable.
