USACS Expands Integrated Acute Care Program to Warren General Hospital
November 12, 2018 -US Acute Care Solutions (USACS) today announced it will begin providing both emergency medicine and hospitalist services to Warren General Hospital, located in Warren, Pennsylvania. US Acute Care Solutions Names Dr. Matthew Patlovany President of Southwest Region
AUSTIN, Texas, October 8, 2018 – US Acute Care Solutions (USACS) today named Matthew Patlovany, MD, FACEP the President of its Southwest Region effective January 1, 2019. Dr. Patlovany most recently served as a Vice President of USACS Southwest, a position he also occupied at Emergency Service Partners (ESP), a founding group of USACS. Before that, Dr. Patlovany served as chief medical officer of Emergency Physicians Affiliates in San Antonio. A board-certified emergency physician, Dr. Patlovany is a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians. Dr. Nicholas Jouriles Honored for Lifetime Achievement at ACEP Scientific Assembly
San Diego, Calif., October 1, 2018 – US Acute Care Solutions (USACS) today announced that Nicholas J. Jouriles MD, FACEP has received the American College of Emergency Physician’s (ACEP) highest award, the John G. Wiegenstein Leadership Award. The John G. Wiegenstein Leadership Award, named for ACEP’s founder and first president, is awarded annually at the ACEP Scientific Assembly, held this year in San Diego. Dr. Jouriles is the Vice Chair of Faculty Development at USACS and Professor Chair, Emergency Medicine at Northeast Ohio Medical University. He has served on and led many regional, national and international emergency medicine committees and boards, including ACEP. He has designed emergency medicine education programs and curricula for medical students, residents and post training learners around the world. His publications are focused on education, policy and operations, particularly freestanding emergency departments. Dr. Jouriles said, “I am extremely humbled by this distinguished recognition from ACEP and I am forever indebted to all my emergency medicine colleagues who afforded me the opportunity to serve and represent the practice of emergency medicine.” As a leader in ACEP, Dr. Jouriles served on the Board of Directors from 2005-2010 and was elected to every office, culminating as president. Dr. Jouriles earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania and his medical degree from Case Western Reserve University. Dr. L. Anthony Cirillo Honored for Health Policy Achievements at ACEP Scientific Assembly
San Diego, Calif., October 1, 2018 – US Acute Care Solutions (USACS) today announced L. Anthony Cirillo MD, FACEP has received the American College of Emergency Physician’s (ACEP) award for excellence in health policy, the Colin C. Rorrie, Jr., PhD Award. The Colin C. Rorrie, Jr., PhD Award, named for ACEP’s executive director from 1982-2003, is presented annually to a member who has made a significant contribution to achieving ACEP’s health policy objectives, or who has demonstrated outstanding skills, talent and commitment as an administrative or political leader. Dr. Cirillo is the Director of Health Policy Legislative Advocacy for USACS, a position he has held for the past 14 years. In this role, he has represented USACS in a variety of organizations and coalitions in the healthcare system reform arena. In addition to his work as Director of Health Policy, he works clinically in both Rhode Island and Connecticut and serves as the local emergency department medical director for the Pequot Emergency Department in Groton, CT. I am grateful to ACEP for the opportunity to advocate on behalf of my emergency medicine colleagues and our patients. There is no separating health care from health policy, and so our involvement as physicians is as critical in government as it is at the bedside. | Dr. Cirillo Dr. Cirillo has served in numerous health policy related leadership positions within ACEP. He has served on, and chaired, ACEP’s Membership, State Legislative Regulatory Affairs, and Federal Government Affairs Committees. He currently serves on the NEMPAC Board of Trustees and on the ACEP’s Alternative Payment Model and Single Payer Task Forces and on the EDPMA/ACEP Joint Task Force focusing on the issue of out-of-network care. He is a Past President of the Rhode Island Chapter of ACEP and has been a Councilor or Alternate Councilor every year since 1992, except for 2008 when he ran for public office. Pioneering Astronaut, Entrepreneur, and Physician Mae Jemison to Speak at the USACS Women’s Dialogue During ACEP18
US Acute Care Solutions is honored to announce that Mae Jemison, MD, who was the first woman of color in the world to go into space and who continues to be a national advocate for science and education through her leadership on and service to multiple organizations, will be the keynote speaker at the3rd Annual Women’s Dialogue Seriesat the ACEP18 Scientific Assembly in San Diego. The USACS Women’s Dialogue Series, held each year at ACEP Scientific Assembly, invites pioneering women to share their experiences and provides a forum for women in emergency medicine to have conversations about the issues important to them. All attendees to ACEP18 are warmly invited. Jemison received her MD in 1981 from Cornell Medical College. She interned at Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center, one of the largest public teaching hospitals in the United States, before briefly working as a general practitioner. From 1983 to 1985, Jemison served as a Peace Corps Medical Officer in Liberia and Sierra Leone. Inspired by African-American actress Nichelle Nichols, who portrayed Lieutenant Uhura on Star Trek, Jemison applied to and in 1987 was accepted to join the astronaut program at NASA. She was a NASA astronaut for six years, becoming the first woman of color in the world to travel into space. Since leaving NASA, Jemison has continued her commitment to science, exploration, and technology as an advocate and entrepreneur. She leads 100 Year Starship, an initiative to ensure capabilities for human travel beyond our solar system within 100 years. The initiative is funded through a competitive grant from DARPA, the US Defense Department’s premiere research agency. Jemison also founded the international science camp The Earth We Share™ for students 12-16 years old, is the Bayer Corporation USA’s national science literacy ambassador, and is a co-host of NatGeo’s “One Strange Rock.” From 1995 through 2001, she was an Environmental Studies professor at Dartmouth College, where she taught courses on sustainable development and technology design. Jemison is a member of the US National Academy of Medicine and is a recipient of the National Organization for Women’s Intrepid Award and the Kilby Science Award. She also has a life-long love of dancing, is a mini LEGO figure in the Women of NASA LEGO set, was the first real astronaut to ever appear in an episode of Star Trek, and in 1999 was voted in the White House Project Straw Poll as one of the top seven women leaders most likely to become President of the United States.

Dr. Amado Alejandro Baez Joins US Acute Care Solutions at Florida Hospital Tampa
CANTON, Ohio, August 2, 2018 – US Acute Care Solutions (USACS) today announced Alejandro Baez MD, MSc, MPH, FACEP, FCCM has joined the company as Medical Director at Florida Hospital Tampa. Dr. Baez most recently worked as Chief of Emergency Medicine at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn, one of the busiest emergency medicine departments in New York City. Preceding that, he served as the founding residency program director at Jackson Memorial Hospital. He was the Chair of Emergency Medicine and Critical Care at Hospital General de la Plaza de la Salud in the Dominican Republic. Prior to that, he was the Associate Director of Emergency Medical Services at Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School. An internationally recognized physician-leader, Dr. Baez completed residency at Mayo Clinic, and a Critical Care fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital/ Harvard. Dr. Baez holds master’s degrees and postgraduate studies in Public Health, Healthcare Management, Leadership and Informatics. As an academician, Dr. Baez has authored more than 100 research studies, published three books and lectured in more than 15 countries.
